English Listening Errors of University Students in Bangka Belitung, Indonesia

Many individuals possess the ability to hear spoken English, yet actively listening and comprehending it presents significant challenges, particularly for international students like those from Indonesia. This research investigates the listening proficiency levels and specific errors encountered by students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bangka Belitung. Employing a mixed-methods approach with an embedded design, the study analysed 21 students’ grades. Besides, the in depth interview was conducted to gather comprehensive data. The findings reveal that the students' listening scores remain comparatively low. Several factors contribute to these lower scores, including confusion arising from words that sound alike, either through rhyming endings or being complete homophones. Furthermore, a limited English vocabulary, difficulties in processing diverse accents and the rapid speech of native speakers in audio recordings also impede comprehension. Recognizing these underlying causes is crucial, as it empowers educators to implement targeted teaching methodologies and strategies designed to address these specific listening challenges effectively.

Improving user comfort in living room furniture by using artificial intelligence

Living rooms are essential elements in residential interior spaces because they provide comfort and relaxation to users. Therefore, designers should develop in the furniture industry using artificial intelligence and design interactive furniture that can adapt to consumers' routines with the advancement of technology. The study intends to improve and apply artificial intelligence to living room furniture design from the perspective of comfort and well-being. It attempts to generate such furniture solutions emphasizing healthy comfort but enabling adjustment according to people's requirements and quality of life. The study focuses on the basic elements that affect users' comfort during use and interaction with living room furniture, and we will also look at the positive and negative aspects of smart furniture supported by artificial intelligence from the users' point of view. The study focused on the factors that influence people’s choice of smart living room furniture to suit their needs, lifestyle, and technological requirements. Through this, the study aims to draw attention to the importance of artificial intelligence in the field of interior design, especially regarding living room furniture. The research is expected to provide designers, manufacturers, and consumers with important information that supports the creation of living environments that focus on the comfort and health of users.

Postwar Disillusionment and the Fragility of Identity in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye

Within the historical and cultural context of post-World War II America, this research paper examines the psychological distress and identity fragility of Holden Caulfield, the main character in J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. The book effectively conveys the deep sense of disillusionment that many young Americans experienced during the war, especially those growing up in a culture that placed a greater emphasis on consumerism, conformity, and shallow ideals. It is believed that Holden's emotional instability, alienation, and cynicism are signs of a greater existential and cultural crisis rather than just personal characteristics.

The study shows how Salinger creates a compelling story about a teen's fight to maintain innocence in a corrupted society by examining Holden's interactions, inner monologues, and rejection of "phony" adult behaviour. In order to comprehend Holden's unpredictable behaviour and worldview, the study incorporates psychiatric theories on depression, trauma, and identity development—particularly Erik Erikson's notion of identity crisis. Furthermore, the study integrates viewpoints from American social history and postwar literary criticism to contextualize Holden's defiance of the prevailing cultural standards of the 1950s.Through an interdisciplinary approach, this paper argues that The Catcher in the Rye transcends the personal narrative of a troubled youth to become a timeless exploration of existential angst, moral confusion, and the human need for authenticity in an impersonal world.
